Dawnless - Beta Demo

A castle without dawn. Three ways to fight.

Dawnless is an original gothic metroidvania from Moon Cartridge. Choose Ravena, Frei Viktor or Ossian and explore a castle trapped in an endless night.

This free beta demo includes 28 connected rooms, three playable hunters and three bosses. Discover abilities and secrets, meet the castle's inhabitants, collect notes, and rest in dedicated Vigília chambers. Some chambers also let you travel between discovered destinations.

Help shape the next version

I'd love feedback on combat, navigation and mobile touch controls. Where did you get stuck? Were enemy attacks readable? Did a virtual button cover something important? Bugs and comments about saving, dialogue, menus and performance are welcome too.

When reporting a problem, please include your hunter, room, device/browser and input method. You can leave feedback in the comments below.

Play

Play in your browser with keyboard or touch controls. English and Portuguese are available. On mobile, landscape gives the castle more room. Saves are local to the browser and this site; they do not sync between devices or other versions of the demo.

• Move: arrows / A and D. Interact: Up / W.
• Jump: Z / Space. Attack: X. Dash: C / Shift.
• Secondary weapon: Q. Switch: E. Healing incense: F.
• Map: M / Tab. Zoom: + / -. Pan: arrows.
• Menu / back: Esc. Touch buttons are displayed on mobile.

About the development

Created and directed by Flávio Henrique Bonfim, with Claude and Codex collaborating on development. The concept and creative direction are mine; I playtest and iterate on the results. Pixel art and audio are rendered procedurally through AI-assisted code. The trailer shows the actual game, not AI-generated video.

This is the current beta, not a final release. A larger castle is planned for future development; it is not included in this build.
